Our story

The Alliance Française was established in Paris in 1883 by eminent figures of the arts, the sciences, and politics to ensure the influence of the French language and culture around the world.

Alliance Française de Bulawayo was established in Bulawayo in the late 1940’s, making it the first Alliance Française in the country. It is a Franco-Zimbabwean non-profit and public benefit organization.

Our mission is to promote the French language and cultural diversity. We do it through the organization of language classes, mainly French but also Ndebele, Portuguese and Shona. We also organize cultural and educational events with French, Francophone and Zimbabwean artists.

The Alliance Française de Bulawayo is located at 61 Heyman Road in the beautiful historic area of Suburbs. The building is characteristic of the early colonial style so evident in the architecture of Bulawayo. Although located in peaceful surroundings, it is only a five-minute drive from the city centre and close to other local schools. On 10 April 2017, an annex of the Alliance Française de Bulawayo was opened in Victoria Falls. This annex is located at 518 Reynard Road and offers substantially the same services as the one in Bulawayo.
