Translation and Interpretation
At Alliance française de Bulawayo, we provide translation services from French, to English or vice versa. Portuguese translation services are also available on request.
The charge is generally $ 0, 15 per word, although this is subject to the level of technicality of the document and can be adjusted after consulting with us.
Translation services require at least 48hrs to complete and are to be paid before the service is offered.
We can also provide interpretation services; please contact us for a quote.
The Resource Centre
The Resource Centre
Learning at Alliance Française does not stop at language acquisition. The library and multi-media centre at Alliance Française also opens a door into the world of French art and culture through a wide range of reading material, both academic and of general interest. There is also an extensive selection of French films – with subtitles – on DVD and French music on CD.
Our resource centre gives you access to over 2 000 documents for adults, teenagers and children: books, comics, CD’s and DVD (French cinema and documentaries), French and francophone African magazines, manuals to learn French, French language teaching aid and more.
Our opening hours are as follows:

Our Materials
The Learner’s Library
The Learner’s library is a section specifically designed to support all students, regardless of their level of French language learning. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced learner, you can find documents which enable you to further indorse yourself into the French language.
The idea behind a Learner’s Library is to provide a user-friendly resource system which indicates the level of difficulty ranging from levels A1 to B2 – Basic to Advanced – providing a wide range of topics concerning French culture as well as linguistic tuition materials.
Featured material in the learner’s library includes not only documented reading material but the recently more desired, interactive and modern ways of learning French through magazines, CDs and DVDs. A wide range of genre categories means that there are French resources to meet the taste of every learner.
Bien-dire
A 52-page magazine to improve your French that you’ll enjoy reading! Full of interesting articles on France and French culture, Bien-dire helps you understand what it is to be French.
Each article is graded for difficulty and has keywords translated into English. You’ll acquire idiomatic expressions and up-to-date vocabulary, receive news and practical information from France and even learn some slang. For intermediate and advanced learners, Bien-dire is also valuable, authentic teaching material for teachers.
The Bien-dire CD audio includes over 60 minutes of articles from the magazine read by native speakers as well as pronunciation and intonation exercises. Published every two months in Lyon, France, Bien-dire is a complete and enjoyable French learning experience.
How to become a member?
Subscription for 12 months is $ 30. Teachers of French pay only $ 20 and in addition they get access to teaching material

Tests and Exams
Do you plan to study or work in France or any in other French-speaking country? Do you simply need to assess your level of French to get into a university in France? Do want to improve your education with a second language?
We train our students for diplomas (DELF, DALF) which are French-government accredited and internationally recognised by French-speaking universities and universities asking for a second language. The Alliance Française is the only official exam centre in Zimbabwe and in Southern Africa.
DELF & DALF
DELF (Diplôme d’Études en Langue Française) and DALF (Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française) are official qualifications issued by the French Ministry of Education to certify French language proficiency of non-native speakers.
International Recognition:
- Diplomas are awarded by the French Ministry of Education and accepted worldwide including the government of Quebec in Canada.
- Exams are held worldwide and conducted under the supervision of the French Embassy of respective countries, at accredited official examination centres.
- The DELF-DALF structure is modelled on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), which serves as an international reference in the organisation of language teaching and certification.
- Candidates having earned the DALF (C1-C2) are exempted from language entrance examinations in French universities.
- Candidates having earned the DELF / DALF diplomas earn extra points for immigration to countries such as Canada and their chances of employment increase. Since the 6th of December 2011, all candidates applying to immigrate to Quebec, Canada, must have DELF A1, as well as IELTS (International English Language Testing System).
TEF / TEFAQ
The TEF, Test d’Evaluation du Français, is a language test that is used to assess the level of French comprehension and expression skills in people who are not native French speakers.
This test can be used for Quebec Immigration purposes and is the only French language examination accepted for the Federal Skilled Worker Programme. This test is only offered at the Alliance française in Harare.
